Full disclosure: most of the guns I see are new to me and my reviews are first impressions. Not so with this one. I had the original G30 before the 30's release and in 2014 I sold my G30 to get the G30S model. It is lighter and lower than the original model and is a rock of a gun; .45 caliber thumper in a compact frame that, to me, feels good. Besides the fact that it is chambered in .45 ACP, the Glock 30S is probably my favorite handgun of all time.

The first and last reason to consider a Glock pistol of any kind is simplicity and reliability. There is no simpler and more reliable gun on the planet than the Glock. That aside, the G30S is purpose-built for concealed carry—it's a compact version of the Glock 21 pistol. So you might consider carrying the G30S for its easy concealment (it's a little smaller than the G19).
You might consider the G30S for its .45 chambering, as most people prefer to have a few large cartridges rather than more small-caliber rounds on their hips. If you have larger hands, you might consider the 30S for its tighter grip radius. It's a double-stack .45 so it has a meaty grip that fills the hand. Despite the large chamber, double stacks of large rounds in the mag, and meaty grip, the G30S is a gun that weighs just over 30 ounces, loaded.
The Glock 30S is a slightly scaled down version of the G30. The primary features are the reduced slide width (1" as opposed to 1.12") and lower slide assembly weight (a full 3.5 ounces lighter than the G30 slide assembly) and with the SF frame, the 30S has a shorter shooting range. and the overall grip radius compared to a plain G30.
, but has the saving grace of being easy to rotate with a Dremmel sander for perfect fit and comfort. I believe every Glock pistol frame needs contouring and shaping, and that's how my 30S is designed. So for me, my Glock 30S fits like a glove.
What's The Difference Between Glock Pistols?
I expect some will find the G30S grip to be more comfortable than that of other Glock models, due to the added girth. My average size and I find the girth and trigger to be fine.
The .45 ACP round has a little more punch compared to the 9mm and any .45 shot from a compact, polymer frame produces less pop. That said, the G30S is neither aggressive nor uncontrollable. The slightly wider than usual grip and the softness of the plastic make the gun feel wet. I have no problem shooting an accurate Bill drill as fast as I can pump my finger with this gun and, as long as your grip is good, this is an easy gun to master. As in the case of comfort concerns, one can turn the frame to allow a better purchase of the finger of the support arm to help manage the control.
One thing I will point out is that while the 10 round magazines allow a full grip of the gun for anyone, the 9 round magazine flow leaves such a short grip that your pinky may not have good purchase on the - catch. . For those with large hands, the pinky may not buy anything. The carry is not as compact as, say, a G26, but the fact that this is a .45 may mean that some people want the full grip that a 10-round magazine provides to help control recoil.
I'm used to carrying a Glock 19 all day and find the G30S conceals better than the G19. This is mainly due to the short handling. The slide is about the same width as the G19, but the frame is a little wider, but that's it and the difference in concealment is not there. Overall, this is an easy gun to conceal; and is slightly heavier than the G19. The G30S is light on your belt if you carry it with a flush 9-round magazine.

They are standard, long-looking magazines with 10-rounders, allowing 11 in your gun. This capacity is not bad, especially considering the compact package and long handle. No complaints here.
Well, it's a Glock. The Glock 30S is built like any other Glock pistol and the frame is Gen 3 style. The recoil spring is of the double spring type. Like most Glock pistols, the G30S comes with a polymer U-notch rear sight. You may want to replace these stock sights with another type of metal sight.
The 30S slide has a bulls-nose twist on the muzzle, but is otherwise similar to the other model. The slide-lock lever and take-up tabs are extremely low, providing the easiest and most comfortable interface in the business.
Despite its simplicity and reliability, maintenance is Glock's best friend. Almost every aftermarket manufacturer makes replacement parts and accessories for Glock pistols and if you have an idea to replace or add items you will have a very wide variety of options to choose from.

Note, however, that unlike other Glock pistols the G30S does not have a retractable magazine release. If you are left handed, the G30S requires you to use the magazine release as it is. That's not a huge drawback, but it's a departure from any other modern Glock model.
I carried a Glock 30S several years ago and it was my everyday pistol for about a year. I wore the gun inside my waist at the 5 o'clock position with a 9 round flush magazine in the gun and 2 10 round mags in the OWB mag pouch on my left side for about 8 :00. This rig is well hidden under a soft t-shirt, thanks to the G30S's flush magazine design. Although it has a full size magazine, the G30S has a shorter grip than the G19 (which is my daily carry now) so it is more concealable regardless of your carry position.
Fully loaded, the G30S is less than .4 ounces heavier than the fully loaded G19, at 30.36 ounces. That's not very clear, but for a .45 double-stack pistol, it's surprisingly good. I find that as long as you have a good carrying belt it's easy to forget you're wearing it. And that is not a glib platitude, but a fact based on long experience.
The Glock 30S is an easily concealed compact .45 with good power vs. size and weight. It is as reliable a gun as ever and easy to adjust; has a wide variety of aftermarket parts and holsters available.
Glock 30: The .45 Acp With A Variant For Everyone
Some with smaller hands may find the grip too wide. The visible polymer just begs to be replaced with metal. The price may be a little high for this gun.
The Glock 30S is probably the best compact pistol Glock makes, but it still needs a few modifications to make it a comfortable pistol.
The Glock 30S is probably not for everyone, but everyone should give it a try. If you want a .45 ACP round and don't mind the recoil profile, I think the G30S offers the perfect combination of size, weight, capacity, reliability and concealability.
